As some of you know, I work at a helpdesk. I had a guy call me up today, cussing me out (in a Lutheran organization never-the-less!) because we sent him instructions to access a website, and when he types in the website, he doesn’t get the site requested, instead it brings him to an MSN Search page.

We use PCAnywhere to connect to our Field Associate’s laptops, to fix their problems, I asked him if I could connect so I can get a better idea of what was going on, and he responded with “No! I”ve had enough people screwing around in here!” I calmly explained that I could help him no further unless he allowed me to see the page he was being taken to. He finally agreed with “Fine, I don’t care, just get it fixed.”

I connected to his laptop, and typed in the URL, it brought me to the desired page instantly, he was shocked, and asked me what I did. I told him I typed in the URL. He insisted that’s what he did, and even proceeded to infer that I was _LYING_ to him, and I must have done soemething secret that he didn’t know about.

I hit the down arrow to see what he had typed in. and realized instantly that he had been typing in: http// instead of http://

with a smirk on my face, I calmly informed him of what the problem was, he was quite upset, and it really made my day after having been yelled at, and told that we don’t do our jobs correctly. Eat Crow, Mr. FA, and be sure to save some for leftovers.
