So I was listening to The Dan Patrick Show on ESPN Radio today on my way to work, I sat through 2 blocks of commercials, each about 4 minutes long. Not once did I hear a commercial for the normal things. Cars, Beer, Painkillers, etc. But here’s how it went.
Block 1:
Ad from Bush, requesting your vote.
Ad from Kerry, requesting your vote.
Local ad from a state representitive stating her ideas and stances
Local ad from the above’s opponent, lambasting her.
Ad from some organization that supports Kerry
Ad from some other organization that doesnt’ support Bush.
20 minutes of Radio Show goodness…
Block 2:
Ad from Russ Feingold.
Ad from some organization making fun of Bush.
Ad asking for your vote for some local assemblyman.
Ad for Kerry
Ad for Bush
ESPN Radio Promo
More show goodness, and then I arrive at work.
I hate this time of year. And I absolutely despise it every 4 years like this one. If I don’t hear enough about the presidential election in the media, I hear about it every time I turn on my TV, flip on my radio, and now whenever I browse a semi-popular website!
As for the Politics of it, at the end of the Presidential ads you get “I’m George Bush, and I approved this message” as opposed to Kerry’s startling reality of “I’m John Kerry, I’m running for president and I approved this ad”. At least Kerry has the grapefruit to say that it’s an ad.
I’ll be grateful on November 3rd. The world will change. There will be more funny beer commercials, and less annoying whining on TV.

down with public radio and up with satelite!
the thing is, in california we don’t get ANY advertising for campaigns - just propositions/state/city laws. they usually narrow the ads down into the states that count. california is traditionally democratic so nobody is wasting any money throwing ads at us. and, believe me i am grateful.
when we kicked gray davis out of office it was like you are experiencing now - ads LEFT and RIGHT for both, and a lot of mud being thrown between like 5 candidates and at times up to 10 (there were tons more on the ballet). but that was an exciting time in our states history since we basically removed our governer for a new one
a much better one i might add - go arnold!
