For those of you who haven’t heard, Jack Thompson is the guy who’s bringing a wrongful death lawsuit against Rockstar Video Games, creator of the Grand Theft Auto series of games, and it’s publisher TakeTwo for the death of 2 police officers and a police dispatcher in bumfuck Alabama, or wherever. He claims that the murderer trained to kill cops in “Grand Theft Auto: Vice City” extensively, because, yeah .. you know.. cops are that easy to kill.

Now, the murder of these fine officers is not what disturbs me. The loss of an officer of the law is a depressing thing no matter what state you live in, however, Jack Thompson as an individual is a bit more depressing.

Mr. Thompson offered a $10,000 US bounty for a company who would make a video game to his specifications. The funds would be donated to the charity of Paul Eibeler’s (the CEO of TakeTwo) choice The specifications included the murder of gaming industry executives, and the kids who work at video game stores.

A GTA Modding team called “The Fighting Hellfish” (website currently down, probably due to massive traffic generated by all the news) created the game. Jack “Flipflop” Thompson now claims that his offer was purely satirical, and he had no intention of donating any money anywhere.

Penny Arcade has donated money in Jack’s name. You can see Jack’s antics and the continuing story on their website. It’s really quite funny.

How does it feel, Jack? You’ve got an entire generation of gamers united against you, and on top of all that, even organizations that are against violence in the media don’t want to be associated with you. I’d go so far as to say you’ve managed to piss off more people than the president has in a much shorter time period.
