Apparently Ingrid Newkirk, the president of PETA thinks Michael Moore shouldn’t have created a documentary on the US healthcare system because he’s “so unhealthy himself”. “There’s an elephant in the room,” Newkirk wrote to Moore in a letter, “and it’s you.” The letter went on to tell Moore that he should become a (gulp) vegetarian which some nutritionists claim is a good way to lose weight.
I had the opportunity to view Sicko and I was actually quite impressed. Compared to Moore’s other films I actually found it enjoyable, and I even laughed a few times. Above all, the film actually made me think.
Being a freelance sysadmin, the flick really hits home for me. I have to purchase my own health insurance, wade through the legality of it all and sign a million documents just so I can go to the doctor. Then, when I do go to the doctor I have to worry if my healthcare provider will actually cover it, or if they’ll write it off as some “pre-existing condition”.
PETA: Moore has done more good with his latest film than you have done in the last 20 years. Instead of swaying the popular opinion to your side, you’ve driven them away through strong-arm tactics and stupid stunts. Not only do I enjoy eating meat, but I eat it just to spite you. If I could lock up some of the PETA members in a room for a time, I’d tape their eyelids open and force them to watch me eat a giant, juicy, delicious steak. It’d be no different from the stupid stunts and tactics that they pull.

It’s OK, I’m pretty sure they won’t cover my hospital stay when I get E.coli, salmonella, or poisoning from the pesticides they use on whatever the fatal-vegetable-of-the-week is.

Yeah, you keep eating that meat and then you can whine when your health insurance won’t cover your triple bypass surgery.
